Florida Mold Inspection / Remediation Info

FL requires a minimum of 14 hrs of CE per renewal period. We have the following courses approved for CE credits. See details at bottom of this page: Residential Mold Inspector Commercial Mold Inspection Mold Remediation Certification Mold Remediation Protocols Infrared Moisture Survey From FL web site: 61-31.504 Continuing Education Requirements for Biennial Renewal (1) Prior to the expiration of each biennial licensure period, and as a condition for renewal of the mold assessor and/or mold remediator license, each person licensed pursuant to Chapter 468, Part XVI, Florida Statutes, shall complete a minimum of fourteen (14) hours of continuing education which shall include, at a minimum, all of the following subjects as they relate to the practice of mold assessment and/or mold remediation: (a) A minimum of six (6) hours of instruction regarding water (moisture intrusion), (b) A minimum of four (4) hours of instruction regarding mold and mold safety, to include respiratory protection, (c) A minimum of two (2) hours of instruction regarding report writing, (d) A minimum of two (2) hours of instruction regarding standards of practice. We are not approved for Initial Mold training in FL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A person desiring to be licensed as a mold assessor or mold remediator must apply to the department after satisfying the examination requirements of this part. 1. Passes the required examination 2. Is of good moral character 3. Completes one of the following requirements: Option 1: A 2-year associate of arts degree, or the equivalent, with at least 30 semester hours in microbiology, engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a related field of science from an accredited institution and a minimum of 1 year of documented field experience; or Option 2: A high school diploma or the equivalent with a minimum of 4 years of documented field experience __________________________________________________________________ We are registered for both the Council-certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) and the Council-certified Microbial Consultant (CMC). Both are accepted for a Florida Mold Assessor license and are equally valid for licensing. I would not recommend that any new student take the CMC unless they have at least three years of experience because the CMC is a longer and harder test. Taking the CIE instead of the CMC should be a no-brainer for newbies. Also, the required reading list for the CIE is pamphlet-sized compared to the encyclopedic list for the CMC. I think what scares students away from the CIE is that it covers additional environmental hazards including asbestos and lead. I would recommend that new Florida students take our Environmental Hazards course and the Remediation Protocols course first before taking the CIE. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- State Office: Division of Professions Mold-Related Services Licensing Program 1940 North Monroe Street Tallahassee, FL 32399-0783 Phone: 850.487.1395 Website: http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/mold/

Mold Inspection CoursePMII's exhaustive Certified Residential Mold Inspector (CRMI) master course, rated at ninety hours, will teach you the methods and practices used to inspect for mold on residential property. You will be taught how to identify and assess damage inflicted by mold, how to correctly and accurately collect mold samples, and will be instructed as to the recommended remediation protocols. In addition, the course also demonstrates how to report on the presence of mold following national standards of practice.

This in-depth, complete course is broken up into fifteen lessons and will help you learn the skills and knowledge necessary to start a mold inspection business, or add mold inspection to your existing portfolio of offered services. You will of course learn about the varied species of mold, but also how to inspect for it and write your findings in reports. The course has copious content detailing how mold affects the human body, which species of molds are common and dangerous and how to submit the samples you've taken to a laboratory for analysis.

Interactive flash cards and practice quizzes will periodically test and allow you to confirm what you've already learned. As you make your way through the lessons, the quizzes give you instant computerized feedback, allowing you to review material you haven't developed a solid understanding in. Our secure system records your results so you can easily track your progress or pick up where you left off.

Mold Training from PMIIIncluded in the course is a 2-hour mold DVD that takes you step-by-step through an entire mold inspection as delineated in the course. For your convenience, you can either use the report templates we provide to you to create reports for your clients, or you may purchase mold report software at a student discount. After completing the course and passing the final exam, you will be certified as a Certified Residential Mold Inspector (CRMI). Successfully learning the knowledge in this course will impart to you the knowledge and skills needed to start a full or part-time business, or add mold inspection to your existing home inspection or other business.

PMII's mold inspection course is an excellent way to prepare yourself for the Council-certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) and Council-certified Microbial Consultant (CMC) certification exams. These exams are sponsored by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC), which is a non-profit independent certifying body.
