Manufactured Home Inspection

Hours: 16 | Type: Distance

Manufactured homes, which are often also referred to as mobile homes, are one of the fastest-growing home inspection markets in the United States. PHII's course is available online and helps you learn at your own pace how to perform an inspection on a manufactured home. You will also learn how to write a professional home inspection report that properly addresses a manufactured home's components and systems.

Manufactured Home Inspection Course
PHII is proud to offer the only course that includes manufactured housing report forms.
Because mobile/manufactured housing is built to Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations, they must be inspected differently than traditional site-built housing. These different regulations affect the design and construction methods, which can differ significantly from traditionally-built homes.

Some important points specifically about manufactured housing covered in the course include:
  • Non-removable chassis,
  • Bracing and support systems,
  • Four-wire electrical service common to all manufactured homes,
  • Polybutylene supply piping,
  • Wind/load/thermal zone ratings,
  • Metal roofing,
  • Skirting,
  • Under wrap,
  • Potentially hazardous aluminum wiring.
And other useful topics and knowledge.

Some manufactured home producers use cheaper, lower quality materials and faster, less scrupulous methods - our course will help you distinguish mobile homes that use better construction materials and practices from those that use lower quality - but not necessarily substandard - materials. The course also covers the varied construction methods, some of the benefits and disadvantages of each, and how to recognize them.

Of particular note, the HUD Manufactured Home Construction & Safety Standards is covered in the course, and the relevant regulations and practices for electrical, gas, water and sewer hookups.
